On May 28, 1918, the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan was proclaimed. 106 years later, on May 26-May 28, 2024, representatives from the United Turkish Federation joined the Azerbaijani diaspora in Toronto to celebrate the Independence Day of Azerbaijan.
“Two States, One Nation” encapsulates the camaraderie between our identities.
Türkiye and Azerbaijan share a common Turkic heritage and have historically been connected through linguistics, various empires and cultural exchanges. The Turkic identity forms a significant bond between the two nations. It was UTF’s pleasure to spend the afternoon with our extended Turkic community celebrating under a sunny day at Nathan Phillips Square and Queen’s Park, Toronto.
